The Outback is unlike any other outdoor shoe on the market. Inspired by the skate shoes we grew up wearing, and sharing the same vulcanized construction method, its low-profile look immediately sets it apart. However, this book's cover doesn't tell the whole story. If you dig deeper, you'll find top-shelf materials and technical features that give the Outback real off-road capabilities. Constructed from 2.0mm oiled leather or suede, a DWR coating, and a gusseted tongue, the Outback will do its part to keep the elements out. On the inside, you'll find a bespoke anti-microbial PU innersole with increased arch support so your feet don't fatigue. We also use a vari-flex Bi Fit lasting board to control flexion over rough terrain, without compromising everyday wearability. Also, they look cool, unless you want that "my whole life is a through-hike" look.
So, if you're looking for a light hiking boot that ditches the needless bulk and over-the-top styling in favor of clean aesthetics and rugged durability, then this is the shoe for you. Let's not forget that Outdoor Magazine said, “This Boot Can Do Anything!‚” and they, of course, were right.

What size should I get?
At Ridgemont our shoes are true to size so if you wear a size 9 in vans then we recommend you wear a size 9 in Ridgemont.

I'd like to be able to give these more than two stars but I truly don't think they're quite deserving. First off, the insoles are horribly uncomfortable. They made the soles of my feet start to hurt in less than an hour after putting the shoes on. I cut some other insoles I had laying around to fit these and swapped the insoles they came with for those. No more achy feet. My only other issues with these things is that they're quite clunky and heavy relative to my other favorite hiking shoes. I put 34 miles on these shoes walking the streets of New York over the last 4 days, and they were fine for that. But I would honestly never trade my other pairs of hiking boots for these. The ground feel is not good for hiking in my opinion. The soles are too thick which make them clumsy for anything other than walking flat terrain. They weigh nearly half of a pound each more than my other preferred cool-weather hiking boots. So Ridgemont blatantly lied about how much each shoe weighs. They weigh nearly 600 grams each- three times heavier than what they advertise.
All that being said, they're good-looking and are fairly comfortable after break-in. I was hoping these would be my new favorites, but no dice.
My second pair after wearing out the last ones wearing them most days for a couple of years.
I purchased these shoes about a year and a half ago. They have traveled with me to Europe twice, as well as excursions all around the U.S. There were days I walked between 10-12 miles. All I can say is that these are some of the most comfortable and well-made shoes I have owned. After all the miles, they show minimal wear other than looking fashionably worn. My only maintenance has been some leather conditioner. The soles show some wear, but nothing significant. I don't know how they would hold up on a hiking trail, because the tread is not very aggressive, but for walking around cities and groomed trails, I have not worn a better shoe. As for sizing, I'd recommend sizing 1/2 step up from your regular size.
My 2nd pair after the 1st ones i had didn’t let me down - comfortable but so resilient considering I chucked everything at it over varying terrains. Sturdy and waterproof- just a great pair of shoes. Pic of my old ones after 2 years and still going strong!
Very pleased with my recent purchase. Very comfortable & stylish. Looks good with my jeans & cords. Love the design. Will soon be purchasing another pair in the brown/tan colour.
Great boot only thing that let it down a little is slightly narrow width
the foot pegs on my bikes (all smooth.street style pegs) destroyed the sole on the shoe.
I had the original outbacks and i still wear them today if u want a great hybrid hike/casual id recommend. I bought these on sale and again liked them so much i bought a 2nd pair on half off sales! I cant recommend enough
Outback - Brown Olive
Great shoes thus far. Sleek enough for the office and feel durable enough for the trails. Fit reminds me of some of the original Supra/ Vox High top models. The eyelets are such a great detail on these as you are really able to dial in the fit when you tie them. Normally size 9.5 but sized up by half to 10 and they fit perfect.
Sz 12 would have been nice, but all they had was 11-1/2s, and after waiting a year for more brown and chocolate, I saw my opportunity and snagged them. The break in time was a little lengthy, but worth it. They are really comfortable, even after being on my feet at work all night. I can ware them at work, then go for a hike, and still rock them afterwards. Plus I play shows in a Metal band and they definitely look the part! Get lots of compliments. I plan on getting 1 or 2 more pairs in different colors at some point! Get 'em if they've got 'em! Thanks

I have multiple pairs of Ridgemont boots and wear them for all occasions. Dog walking, shopping, pub and restaurant, there’s a pair for them all.
The boots are snug and broke in pretty quick (2 days). I skateboard so I am particular about how my shoes fit. I use the Outback’s for work which requires walking on tough terrain (gravel, rocks) and they work great. Highly recommend.
The quality is superb! They are heavy duty and very nice. I highly recommend them. They has a think interior sole and run slightly small. Recommend half size bigger then typical size.
Love the quality and fit of these shoes. They are a little dressier than I thought, but all good. They are super comfortable and can be worn with jeans, business casual, etc. Stoked on my purchase!
