It’s true that the Monty is inspired by the light hikers of the 80s, but we wouldn’t go so far as to call it a retro style. We’ve built the Monty on a slim, modern last, we utilize top quality materials, and state of the art manufacturing processes to make them. However, they do have definite analog aesthetic about them. We love the proportions and simplicity of the pattern which mask the real light-hiker abilities we’ve built in. The exposed EVA midsole cushions every step while the TP heel clip keeps you locked in. Our vari-flex lasting board does double duty as a shank to make sure flexion is controlled, but doesn’t sacrifice daily wearability, and it’s also available with a fully waterproof liner. On top of that, did we mention that the Monty comes in both low-top and hi-top (technically more of a mid-top) versions? Talk about versatility.

Men's Monty Hi - Black/Gum
I got a green pair of Monty Lo a year or so ago. Loved them so much I got 2 new pairs: dark blue in the old style and army/rust in the new style. They are comfortable and super durable.
Already coming apart after one hike. Have only had these a few weeks and that's because of poor customer service. I attempted to return these starting the day I got them. 3 weeks later I finally got a response after 4 emails. First time out, sole is already separating. If you still would like to buy these, ordering a half size up is accurate. I feel they're a little narrow and tall in the toe box personally. Crappy construction, crappy customer service. Not happy. Don't recommend, but go on and find out for yourself. If you're using these to walk around the shopping center they may be ok, but as a true outdoors shoe... no.
I've had them for less than two months and they're already falling apart after just moderate use - I'm recovering from a knee surgery so I'm really not putting them through that much, not even my daily shoe. Pull tab on back ripped off while pulling them on and the rubber is already delaminating. Very disappointing as the shoes feel and look great.
